Beetight alternative: where to keep bee records now

Beetight was one of the best-loved hive record apps for fifteen years, run by a solo developer and used by tens of thousands of beekeepers. It closed in stages: new signups ended 20 June 2024, the service went read-only on 1 October 2024, and on 2 February 2025 the apps stopped working and all user data was deleted. If you are arriving here from an article that still recommends it, that recommendation is out of date: there is no Beetight to sign up for, and no data left to retrieve.

If you were a Beetight user, that likely means years of inspection history are gone. That is a genuinely lousy thing to have happen to careful records, and it is worth saying so before any sales pitch.

What Beetight's closure should teach all of us

The developer's own wind-down notice was honest about the cause: one person, health problems, and the grind of maintaining mobile apps. It was not a rug-pull; it was a warning about how this category works. Choosing a replacement, the questions that matter are:

Can you get your data out, on every plan, at any time? Not "contact support for an export". A button. If the answer is no, you are re-entering this exact situation with extra steps.
What happens to your records if you stop paying? The good answer is that they remain readable and exportable. Paying for access is fair; holding history hostage is not.
Is the vendor charging money? It feels backwards, but a free service with no revenue is the one that disappears. Beetight was free for most users. A sustainable price is a longevity signal, not a defect.
Was there warning? Beetight, to its credit, gave months of notice and an export window. Any vendor should be able to tell you their wind-down policy with a straight face.

Rebuilding your records without losing another season

If your Beetight history is gone, do not try to reconstruct it from memory; you will trust the reconstruction more than it deserves. Instead:

Start a clean baseline now. List your hives, queens (age and source if you know them), and equipment. That is 20 minutes.
Do one thorough baseline inspection per hive and record it properly: queen evidence, brood pattern, stores, mite count. Your history restarts from a real data point, not a guess. (What a good inspection entry contains.)
Salvage what exists elsewhere: photos on your phone are dated and geotagged; harvest weights often survive in texts, invoices, or the label printer's history. Attach what you find to the right hive or season and move on.
